Building Chinese Linguistic School of Phoenix in 1989

OCAC contributed to the building of Phoenix Chinese School. |
|
|
|
|
|
As Chinese-American population exploded in the 1980s, CUAGP built the Chinese Linguistic School of Phoenix in 1989, with $70,000 government funding from Taiwan Overseas Chinese Affairs Council (OCAC) and $40,000 drawn from the construction fund. Since the inception of the school in 1990, the number of students had increased significantly. Hence, CUAGP leaders braved the heat from one place to another and raised over $70,000 for the expansion of the school.

Expansion

the
Chinese
Senior
Center
in
1994
|
As members of Phoenix Chinese Senior Citizen Association reached five hundred in 1994, the early center had become inadequate for use. CUAGP launched a fundraising campaign and raised a total of $294,000 from all its sixteen member organizations and their members. This amount has been the largest sum of money Phoenix Chinese-Americans have ever donated since the inception of the City of Phoenix. As a result, the original senior center was expanded more than doubled in size and became a fantastic new Senior Center.
